Description: API Study Abroad and Intern Abroad Scholarships
API awards approximately $400,000 in study abroad scholarships annually ranging from $250 -$1,000 per student. Participants may apply for multiple API scholarships (though may only be awarded one) and are encouraged to refer to the list of additional scholarship and funding resources included below. Applicant must be participating in an API Study Abroad program (; not open to the general public.
API Regional Scholarships:
Asia/Middle East Regional Scholarship Europe Regional Scholarship Latin America Regional Scholarship The API regional scholarships provide awards that range from $250 to $800 per session. All API students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher are encouraged to apply. The scholarship is both need and merit-based. We will review your academic record, essays and financial need as stated in your own words. This scholarship is offered to quarter/semester, academic year, and summer students. Other Scholarships: For our program in Rome at John Cabot University (JCU), API offers a Diversity Scholarship to help underrepresented populations study abroad more affordably in Rome.
API also offers an "early bird scholarship" for students applying to study at JCU (from $200-$350 off of the program fee).
API is pleased to offer scholarship opportunities for first generation college students, as well as STEM students (science, technology, egineering and mathematics). In addition, we offer three regional scholarships based on our different program locations (Asia/Middle East. Europe, and Latin America).
Finally, students participating on an API program who have been awarded a Gilman scholarship will be eligible to receive up to $1,000 in matching contributions from API. To receive this award, Gilman winners should indicate their scholarship details on their financial aid information after acceptance to an API study abroad program. Students who are awarded another API scholarship will receive a total of $1,000 between the scholarship and the Gilman matching award.
API students from affiliate institutions also receive scholarship funds.

Eligibility Requirements: 1)The student must have applied and been accepted to an API program.
2)The student must obtain one additional letter of recommendation (in addition to the one required for the API application) from a professor or an assistant professor (for a total of 2 letters).
3)The student must submit at least two essays: - Write a personal essay (1 page maximum) highlighting your financial circumstances. It is important that you state clearly your financial need or any special circumstances of which you would like API to be aware. - The topic of the second essay will be determined by the individual scholarship(s) for which the student is applying. More information on these topics can be found on our online scholarship application.
4) The student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (B) or higher.
5) Complete and return the scholarship application.
